Game rules
2 vs 2, single elimination. Every table has a referee who starts the match and records the winner in the app.
1. Setup
- Each team has 10 cups in a pyramid (4-3-2-1) at its end of the table.
- Drinks are provided by the organisers. You choose beer, spritzer or non-alcoholic when registering and can switch at any time on match day – just tell the referee.
- Rock, paper, scissors decides who starts.
2. Throwing
- Each round, both players throw once – two throws per team.
- Throw from behind your table edge. If the table moves during a throw, it doesn't count. There is no elbow rule.
- A ball that lands in a cup is taken out straight away. Hit cups are emptied and removed once both throws of the team are done.
- Double hit: if both throws hit, you get a bonus throw – anyone may take it.
- Same cup: if both balls land in the same cup, that cup and two more of the throwing team's choice are removed.
- Trick shot: if the ball touches anything else first (table, wall, person) and then lands in a cup, one extra cup must be emptied.
- A knocked-over cup counts as hit, no matter who knocked it.
3. Defending
- Defend only behind your own table edge, and only after the ball has touched something (table, cup rim). Once the ball is in a cup, it's in.
- No blowing, fanning or fingering the ball out.
- If someone reaches past their table edge and touches the ball, the throwing team chooses one cup that counts as hit.
4. Re-racking
- Each team may have the opponent's cups re-racked twice per game, at the start of its own round.
- The new formation can't be longer than the starting pyramid; no four cups in a row.
- Cups are pushed back together before every throw.
5. Last cup and overtime
- When the last cup is hit, the losing team gets a rebuttal: both throw once more and get the ball back for every hit.
- If they clear all of the opponent's remaining cups this way, it goes to overtime: three cups each in a triangle, no re-racking; the team that was ahead starts. At most one overtime per team per game.
6. Time and calls
- Your table is shown on the website and the projector. If you're not at the table 5 minutes after the call, you lose by walkover.
- A game lasts at most 20 minutes. After that, the team that has hit more of the opponent's cups wins; if tied, the next hit decides.
- Both registered players must play; no substitutions during the tournament.
7. Referees, fair play and spectators
- The referee starts the game in the app and records the winner. Their calls stand; the organisers settle disputes finally.
- Cheering is encouraged – but keep your distance from the table and the thrower. Distracting players can cost your team penalty cups.
- Look after yourselves and each other. The terms of participation apply.
